Our Philosophy
A proper classical education cultivates the mind therefore leading to a wise and virtuous student. This is achieved by providing the student with an environment that is both engaging and focused on the acquisition of knowledge and skills. Acquiring knowledge is not enough, the ability to gain a deeper understanding and perspective of the world in which they live is paramount to an educated mind. This training crafts the student to become an independent and sophisticated thinker. While the curriculum is traditional and academic, it is also rich in opportunities for creative experience and expression. It is the school's philosophy that only upon knowledge can creative potential best be realized and self-expression most fully developed. For education to be effective, it must go beyond conveying fact. Truly effective education cultivates thinking and articulate students who are able to develop facts into arguments and convey those arguments clearly and persuasively.
Education at The Academy is serious and it requires mutual respect and a commitment between the teacher, the student, and the parents. The role of the teacher is to be model, mentor and instructor. Each student is unique and therefore our learning environment will strive to meet the needs of each student so that they can reach their fullest potential. The classroom environment must be a place where a student feels safe and valued and where achievement is expected and encouraged.
